The Dilema of Small Business Owners and technology

June 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I listen to a lot of Small Business Owners talk about getting on-line, updating their 10 year old website, buying advertising, and the like.  What ends up being the undercurrent in these conversations is “I’m busy and a little fearful.  I don’t know how the new tech works and I’m too busy ‘owning’ my business to learn this stuff”.  If I’m just starting a new business and I’m Gen X and Gen Y, I know that my only digital competition happens to be business owners in the same generation.

Does this mean that small business owned by “boomers” will slowly melt away or be forced to shut their doors / retire early?  Who’s willing to bridge this massive gap?  Don’t belive me, just check out the NPR story about finding jobs and how that is done now (if you have a paper resume, you’re not getting an offer)
